News Syndicates

A news syndicate could mean two different things: (1) A chain that runs and owns a group of newspapers, or (2) A column or part of a newspaper that is published in many different newspapers at the same time.

A Chain that Runs and Owns a Group of Newspapers:

A chain like this is interesting. It would be good in some ways and bad in some ways for the public relations of businesses. For a business that was well liked by the chain, it would be great. They would have good things said about them in many different newspapers.

But for the business that was not liked by the chain, it would stink. Their name would appear in many newspapers in an unpleasing way. It would hurt their business because the more people that each newspaper in the chain was distributed to, the more people that would read negative things about their business.

Exclusives

So you are a business and you are trying to get good publicity. All businesses are. Publicity is a major key to success in the business world. There are many ways the people go about getting good publicity.

Businesses pitch their stories to publications and stuff they want to be seen on and they develop relationships with reporters so that reporters will report them in a good light. They release great products and try to earn the trust of the public. There are many different things businesses will do.

One tactic that businesses will use is exclusives. This means that they will release information to one publication and not another. They will exclude a lot of reporters and such from receiver their information.

Developing Relationships with Reporters

For any business, developing relationships with reporters is very important. A lot of what the public hears and thinks about you comes from the media. They cannot be in your business day in and day out, observing all that you do.

They do not know what goes on in there; all they see is your products. And even if you have great products a lot of people will not buy them if they do not hear good things about you. They have to feel that they know you and trust your business.

A great way to be sure that good things will be said about you in the media and that you will be able to share your opinion on important topics is to develop a good relationship with the reporter.

Beats

A beat reporter is a reporter who reports on a certain beat. A beat is a certain area or topic such as police, environment, agriculture etc. They learn all they can about their beat and report only on that beat.

Small pressrooms usually do not have beat reporters, but big ones do. A beat reporter is an expert in their field. They study it and watch it and report everything that goes on with it. They contact everyone within their beat so that they can always receive the information they need.

They go to meetings, they stay updated with agendas, and they report everything that goes on. In normal reporting reporters are expected to gather stories from everywhere and report on everything that goes on.

Pitching Stories

For anyone trying to get publicity, pitching stories well and the right way is crucial. You will never get heard if you cannot deliver a good pitch because you will not be listened to.

It you pitch stories in the correct way then you are much more likely to get publicity and you are much more likely to impress rather than irritate the reporters you are trying to reach.

So how do you pitch a good story? Really, reporters do not have all day to worry about you and your story. No matter how important your story is to you, it is not important to them unless you can deliver it well and in a way that will make them want to publicize it.

Morning Shows

If you want to appear on a morning show you have to be able to pitch your story in a way that will make the reporter want to have you on their show. You cannot just ask to be on the show and then expect to be accepted because you asked. What you do is key to their decision of whether or not to bring you on their show.

They are too busy to find out about you and find out about your qualifications. They are too busy to sit and listen to you tell them your story and tell them why it should be published. They are just too busy. All they can do is read your pitch, decided whether not they like it and then take the steps to get you on their show if they do like it.

Boxing

There are many, many different types of things that people can do to be fit. One thing that you do not hear too often when looking for great fitness workouts is boxing fitness. It is very unique and is also supposed to be very great for your body and for burning fat.

Boxing for sport is a very different thing that boxing for fitness. Boxing for sport involves two people, fighting each other, these two people try to hit each other over and over. They either win by one hitting the other the most times by the end of the match or they win by knocking each other out.

Spokesperson

If the head of every business, if every actor, actress, professional athlete, singer, or anyone who is famous, even those who are not famous, if they all spoke for themselves this world would be all talk and nothing else.

It is important for any business to have a great spokesperson. The spokesperson will contribute a lot towards creating a market. This person will handle media inquires and develop relationships with reporters so that the head of the business can keep running his/her business.

The spokesperson handles things with the press. People want to know about your business. They want to know who you are, what you stand for, they want to know your views, they want to know about your products, they want to know if you stand in the same place that they stand in.

Columnist

So you are a small business or just someone who wants to get a little bit of publicity for something or other. You are having a very hard time with it because you just do not know what you do in order to get the publicity that you are looking for. So what do you do?

One option would be to become columnist. A columnist is someone who publishes his or her own column in a newspaper or magazine. It is a regular thing and is their own place in a newspaper to daily express opinions and views and such.

Columns are a great was to obtain expert status. If you have a column that people read regularly and you are knowledgeable about the things you talk about and you make them easy for people to understand, they will come to view you as and expert in your field.

Expert Status

For any business or person that is trying to get good publicity, it would really help them if they would achieve expert status. Receiving expert status would help the spokesperson of a company as well as someone trying to publish a book or an article or anything of the sort.

If you are trying to achieve expert status that means that you not only claim to know what you are talking about, but you are actually an expert in that area. For someone writing a book about animals, they have to be able to prove that they actually know about the animals, they have to prove that they are an expert in their field.

If people know that you are an expert they will trust what you have to say. If Michael Jordan were to write a book about basketball, he would probably sell many, many copies because he is an expert in his field.

Creating a Market

For any business, creating a market is a major key for your success. If you do not have people interested in you then you are not going to sell your stuff and your business will crash.

It is very important that you get your name out, provide people with something that will pique their interest and make them want to come to you. If you want customers, you have to make your customers want you.

For example, say you have invented a new, revolutionary technology that will be a hit. This is a technology that has been waiting to be developed. It is something that people will flock to because they want it so bad.

On one hand, you could allow this technology to be used by many different companies so they could put it in their products. On the other hand you could keep it to yourself and use it only in your own products.

Public relations

Have you ever thought about public relations? Well, you should be thinking about public relations constantly.
