Fashion Public Relations

As in all industries, public relations are becoming increasingly important in the fashion industry. The purpose of public relations in any industry to is to make sure your company has a good relationship with its employees, client, and competing business. Public relations serves the same function in the fashion industry and those who are working in the fashion industry are quickly learning to rely on the public relations department (or company) rather than on advertising.

Advertising alone is not enough anymore. People are too quickly getting used to the hype and excitement that surrounds an advertisement and do no longer believe in the credibility of an advertisement. That is why if the fashion industry can find a spokes person who will use their product and be a living testimony of their product, they are quickly shelling out millions in order to retain those people. The public in general is more apt to believe the testimony of someone not related to the company than an advertisement.

Event planners

Planning an event typically take a lot of time and money. If you are put in charge of planning and event you will want to make sure you have enough of both. Most events need to be planned three to six months in advance.

An event, whether you are putting it on for a, church, a company, or a school, will need to be budgeted well. Making a budget for the event before making any plans will first ensure that the organization is bringing in enough funds to have an event, and second help you in your planning to help your committee to know what limits they must stay within, thus helping them to plan accordingly. Most events will not come to an end without first presenting at least a few hidden costs. You will want to plan accordingly so there will be no surprises and nothing that has to be left out at the last minute because of lack of funds.

Event Management

Event Management can be a large but rewarding job. To manage an event you typically will get to select your committee (if they're not already permanently selected through the company you work for), choose the date, plan the event, control the publicity, and make the event as fun or as informational as you would like.

To manage an event you will first need to select your committee. How large your committee needs to be depends on how large the event will be as well as how much time do you have to plan for it. If you are planning a simple office birthday party for one of your employees, you will probably not need a large committee but rather someone to pick up food, and someone to set up, and possibly someone to advertise. However if you are planning a large company wide event, and you work in a large company, you will want to pick enough people for your committee that you can delegate enough assignments out to make sure everyone has enough time and energy to do their assignment to the best of their ability. Again the amount of assignments one person can handle will depend on the time you have before your event.

Event Calendar

An event calendar is a great way to publicize an even through out your company's employees, or participants in your organization. An event calendar differs from an editorial calendar in that it's main purpose and focus is to name different dates for a specified event, rather than events included with, trainings, company announcements, product release dates, and so forth.

An event calendar can be very useful for use in companies as well as, church organizations, schools, and social groups. Each of the these groups yearly holds events for social or business purposes and it is a great idea to make them known well in advance by calendaring those events.

Public Relations Ethics

The public relations industry is relied upon to provide accurate, honest information in the times of a crisis or other newsworthy event.

When information is involved and reputations, money, and jobs are at stake, it can be easy to be misled. Many times, companies or executives are willing to bribe or "buy off" individuals in the field of public relations or journalism in order to put a positive spin on an otherwise negative or potentially damaging situation.

embargoed press release

So you've just sent out a press release to the members of the news media, and you are trying to decide whether or not you want an embargoed press release. Well, first you should know precisely what an embargoed press release is. First, a press release is a statement or an article that is sent to different branches of the media. A press release can be sent to editors at your local newspaper, to your local news stations, radio stations, networks, and magazines.

An embargoed press release is when a press or news release is sent out, but the press or news release isn't made public or published by the members of the news media until a certain time. Obviously, this is the opposite of sending out a press or news release that you want to be immediately released. You should write on the top of all press releases or news releases that you send out to the media EMBARGOED UNTIL [insert date] or FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Emailing press releases

One of the responsibilities associated with being a publicist or public relations specialist is the writing of press releases. Press releases are client-information and publicity pages that must be distributed to the media. Their distribution may correspond to a new company, a company product, a merger, a special event, a new band, an author's book, or a number of reasons that depend on the publicist's type of client.

Many public relations specialists or publicists mail press releases, some use fax machines to send them, but many have turned to email. Publicists find email inexpensive, convenient, and fast. Journalists or media personnel frequently prefer to receive press releases through email for the same reasons.

However, a publicist emailing his or her client's press releases must consider the pros, cons, and protocol for sending press releases by email.

The first: a paper explaining the purpose of something and its function.

The something in this case could be a company's new release of a certain product. If a company had a product that was well liked and used, such as Apple's iPod, then they might write a white paper every time a new version was released.
