Exclusives

So you are a business and you are trying to get good publicity. All businesses are. Publicity is a major key to success in the business world. There are many ways the people go about getting good publicity.

Businesses pitch their stories to publications and stuff they want to be seen on and they develop relationships with reporters so that reporters will report them in a good light. They release great products and try to earn the trust of the public. There are many different things businesses will do.

One tactic that businesses will use is exclusives. This means that they will release information to one publication and not another. They will exclude a lot of reporters and such from receiver their information.

Why would a company want to do this? Maybe they want to get their information out in just the right way. They want it to be released in the way that they want it to be heard. If they release it to the public at large than they risk the twists and turns that will happen to their story along they way.

There are also reporters that will not release stories and such unless they can release it exclusively. It does not all have to do with the business, but what the reporter wants from the business.

People argue about whether it is really right that certain publications should get information that other publications do not receive. They argue that it is unfair and such. They want all publications to have equal chances.

While there are good things that exclusives can do, there are also bad things that they can do. If you are releasing a story exclusively you just may be injuring your company rather than helping it.

If you release a story exclusively to one company than you risk making other reporters angry and losing relationships with them that you may have. If you make reporters angry and they are important people when it comes to reporting, that is not going to be too good for your company.

If there is an important reporter that is angry then he or she will not want to publish good things about your company. Sending out an exclusive may hurt your more than help you because so many other reporters would probably not have very good things to say about you.

In the business world, publicity is very important for your business to run. If you have one great reporter publishing good things about you, that is great, but what about all the others? Of course not all publishers will turn on you just because you release exclusives, but it would not be good of important people did.
It may be better just to risk having your story twisted a little bit an releasing it to the public at large. If certain reporters will not work with you unless you give them exclusives, you could try to find other reporters that could also be great contacts. Maybe if the reporter sees that you would just drop him or her then they would change their mind a bit.

You just have to always consider what would be best so that your company can continue to be viewed in a light that will make the public want to use your products and such. You will always have people against you, but you want to try and do your best and not feeding their "against-ness." If you do it will not be good for your company.
