Get your head right
There is a mind set that you must have to do public relations. The key is to always be thinking about how things look from an outside perspective. This is contrary to the message that most of our mothers tried to get into out heads that "it doesn't matter what everybody else thinks". In the world of public relations, it really does matter what every body else thinks. You need to constantly think about appearances, appearance and image are the most important thing in this field.
As people, we tend to be tied to our own perspective and it is sometimes hard to look through other people's eyes. Interviews and surveys are two good ways to find out how things look to other people. It is also a good idea to get feedback on potential actions before launching the action. Sometimes the only way to know how the public is going to respond is to ask the public how they are going to respond. Sometime even that won't help.
