How big is your scope?

Your scope or focus should be determined by the type of job that you have. If you work for a big public relations firm, you want to be as broad as possible. Working for a big firm you will be assigned to a variety of accounts.

To be as valuable as possible to your company and also to your clients, you should know a little bit about everything. On the other hand, if you work for one company and you have a specific job, your scope should be much narrower. In that circumstance, you are going to make yourself valuable by knowing every little detail that relates to your company. You should focus on the particular laws and the nuances of public opinion. No matter what your job is you should always be learning and educating yourself. The difference between a broad scope and a narrow scope is not how much you learn. Rather, it is the material that you focus on when you are learning.
