For businesses everywhere there is one thing that is necessary for all of them to have in order for them to be successful and that is publicity. They have to have good relations with the public or else they will fail.
In order for them to be successful they have to have consumers and those consumers are the public. If the public is not interested in them then they will no be able to run. They will not have the funds to keep themselves going. They will have to pay for their products and their building and everything and if they do not have any money to do that then they will not be able to stay up and running.
Some businesses are small and only focus on getting publicity amongst the local public. Some are a little bigger and will spread throughout the nation. But others are even bigger and will spread throughout the world such as Wal-Mart and McDonald's.
For businesses and people to advertise and get good publicity throughout the entire world they have to know other cultures. They have to study and find out about the people who they are advertising to.
For example, a toothpaste company advertised their toothpaste in South Asia by saying that it would turn their teeth whiter. They failed there because in South Asia it is beautiful to have black teeth and so they would not buy a product that was opposite of what they wanted.
This is just an example of why it is important that you study the culture before you advertise there. If you do not know them then you will not know how well your business will do there and if it does not do well that it is a huge waste of money for you.
You have to be sure to know how your logos and slogans and such translate in their language. Things that mean one thing in your language could mean a completely different thing in their language. You do not want big advertisements posted that offend people or make no sense to them.
You want advertisements that will catch their attention because of how it applies to them. You want advertisements that will be good in their language and make sense. Otherwise you are wasting time there.
You also have to be careful with your pictures. Things that may not seem offensive or weird here may have completely different meaning there. You may put up a picture that would drive them away from your business rather than draw them to it. You have to be very careful when you are going into different cultures.
You also have to know how to advertise there. In some countries radio, TV and other media may not be the primary source of their information. They may have other places where the read advertisements and such. You want to advertise where they will see it and want to be part of it. Not where they hardly ever look.
In short, you have to have knowledge of the places where you advertise. You have to know them and know their cultural differences. Otherwise you could make big mistakes and lose a lot of money. It is so important that when you enter a new place you enter it in their style of living and not your own.
If you buy a child toys that they do not like and that do not appeal to them, then it is a waste of your money. Just as trying to give other cultures things that do not appeal to them would be a waste of your money. You have to give them something they understand and enjoy.
