News Syndicates
A news syndicate could mean two different things: (1) A chain that runs and owns a group of newspapers, or (2) A column or part of a newspaper that is published in many different newspapers at the same time.
A Chain that Runs and Owns a Group of Newspapers:
A chain like this is interesting. It would be good in some ways and bad in some ways for the public relations of businesses. For a business that was well liked by the chain, it would be great. They would have good things said about them in many different newspapers.
But for the business that was not liked by the chain, it would stink. Their name would appear in many newspapers in an unpleasing way. It would hurt their business because the more people that each newspaper in the chain was distributed to, the more people that would read negative things about their business.
That is why it would be very important for businesses to develop relationships with the reporters. If they did not then it could mean bad things for their business. It would also be important for the business to handle media inquiries well for the same reasons. Their spokesperson would need to be well trained in what to say and how to respond to questions from the reporters.
A Column or Part of a Newspaper that is published in many Different Newspapers at the Same Time:
This would be good or bad for a company for almost the same reasons as the first. If you were well liked by a reporter who appeared in many different magazines then that would be great. Your name would be seen as something good, all over.
But if you were not liked by one of the reporters and they reported something negative about you, then your name would be seen for bad all over. It would be a little better than the first way because even if you name appeared in one persons column, it still may not appear as bad throughout the entire newspaper.
Either way it would be important to develop good relationships with the reporters and to handle your media inquiries well. Either way it would be important to have a well-trained spokesperson. If they were well trained and you were well liked by reporters then it would help you to create a market. Especially if your spokesperson had expert status.
Since publicity is a huge part of running any successful business, these things are very important to apply to your business. Even if you have a business that produces wonderful products and has wonderful things, without good publicity, who is going to buy your stuff?
You are trying to sell yourself to the public and if the public does not hear receive positive publicity about you through the media, they will not want to have a lot to do with you. That is just how it is. They will go with other companies that they trust. Even if you have better products, they would not know and they are happy with the other company so it would not be bad for them not to go with you.
You could still win people through advertising and you could win people that try out your products just because they are interested in them, but what about everyone else? Publicity is so important and it is so important that you put in a lot of effort towards your public relations so that you will get good publicity.
