Opinion Leader

In order for a business to do well they need great publicity. If they do not have good publicity they will not be able to do well as a business. Their success depends on the public's opinion of them mainly.

If the public does not think well of them then there will not be anyone who wants to buy their products. If there is not anyone who wants to buy their products then the business will not stay a business.

The business runs because it manufactures something and that something is bought by the public. The money that they earn off of it can then go towards making other products and selling those.

So it is apparent how important publicity is to a business. There are many ways for a business to get publicity. One major way is for them to pitch stories to editors and reporters and also to develop relationships with them.

If they develop relationships with reporters then they can be confident that those reporters will publish good things about them and further their good publicity rather than hinder it. It would also be easier for them to pitch their stories and get them accepted because they would also have a good foundation there.

Other people that it is very important for businesses to develop relationships with are opinion leaders. Opinion leaders are people whose opinion is valued and respected by the general public. They are people who can affect the public's opinion by what they say because the public looks up to them so much.

They are people like Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. These two both have millions of people who tune in to their shows and are affected by what they say. Of course they have people who are against them, but they also have tons of people who respect them very much.

If would probably incredibly difficult for businesses to develop relationships with people such as this. But there are other opinion leaders who are not quite so famous and still have a great affect on their listeners.

If businesses could develop relationships with people like this it would mean a lot for their publicity; especially if the business was one that was new and not very well known. If a business that was new were to develop a good relationship with an opinion leader and that opinion leader were to say good things about the business, that business would probably start making some money.

Although people would not know the business and would not yet trust the business completely, because someone that they do trust and respect said something good about the business, then people would feel like they could trust it.

It would be dangerous to get on the bad side of one of these opinion leaders because if they said something bad about the business then that business would falter right from the beginning. In order for them to do well, they need influential people to endorse them or else they need to do a really good job advertising and going about other ways to get publicity.

Opinion leaders have a great effect upon the public and because the public's good opinion is what businesses need, it is important for businesses to be thought well of by the opinion leaders. Then the business can rely on the multiplier effect to help the good opinion and trust spread all over until they can get a lot more business.
