PRSSA
What is the PRSSA, and what can it do for you? The PRSSA stands for the Public Relations Student Society of America. The PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) is a student organization that is part of the PRSA, or the Public Relations Society of America. The PRSSA is an organization that was founded by the PRSA in 1968 in order to help students who are interested in following careers in public relations.
The way that the PRSSA helps students who are interested in pursuing careers in public relations in by cultivating relationships that are helpful and advantageous to both students interested in public relations are public relations professionals. The PRSSA has over 8,500 members who belong to individual chapters on college campuses.
The PRSSA works to accomplish the following goals:
1. To instill in its student members the appropriate professional attitude necessary to following and achieving a successful career in public relations.
2. To help students studying public relations to understand current theories and current practices and procedures in the contemporary field of public relations.
3. The PRSSA works to instill in its members an awareness of and a commitment to ethical principles and ideas of the very highest standard.
4. The PRSSA also strives to ensure that members of the PRSSA, the student organization, will be ready to achieve first an Associate Membership in the PRSA, the mother organization, and to receive accredited membership in the PRSA when ready.
The PRSSA leadership exists on several levels. The first level is the headquarters, which are held in New York City. The National Committee consists of 14 members. The list of members of the National Committee are as follows: the National President, the Immediate Past President, Vice Presidents (6), the FORUM Editor-in-Chief (FORUM is the newsletter of the PRSSA), the National Webmaster, the PRSA Board Liaison, the PRSSA Director, the National Faculty Advisor and the National Professional Advisor.
Each year the PRSSA holds a National Assembly in order to elect the student members of the National Committee: the National President and the six Vice Presidents. At this National Assembly the FORUM Editor-in-Chief and the Webmaster, who are both students also, are appointed. Any member of the PRSSA has the opportunity to run for these offices. If elected, membership of the National Committee will lead to great professional opportunities, preparation, and development. The PRSSA works primarily on a chapter level. Chapters are established are universities. Chapters have the opportunity to compete are different competitions, such as the Bateman Competition.
