Public Relations Firms
Public relations is quickly becoming an essential part of marketing for business, organizations, and groups running any sort of campaigns.
Public relations firms work for the non-paid organizations running campaigns against drugs, smoking, and abuse. They also work for the paid organization, such as hospitals, and other medical clinics, who are running campaigns for health and better living. Public relations firms are also quickly becoming a necessity to business and large corporations.
The corporate world is quickly finding out that a good press release can do more for their business that a thousand advertisements. The reason for this being that the public in general no longer takes the word of the company as the most reliable. Where as in the past maybe the public believed in a product because of the company that released it, or in a company because of the quality of products they released, the public is beginning to believe more and more that all of these large companies are simply out to make the biggest pay check. To make the biggest pay check their products would have to be the cheapest, the fastest produced, and marked up the most. This is why it is hard for the public to believe in advertising any more.
The corporate world understands the view of the public (in some ways being just as much a part of the public themselves) and is striving to rectify the situation through finding outside sources to try and believe in their product or company.
Many companies are hiring faces, or well known people, to act as a face for their advertising campaign. When this was a new trend it worked better as the public enjoyed hearing from a familiar face what was a good product and what was not. As it has become common knowledge though what these people, or faces, are being paid, even their word as far as an advertisement goes, is becoming less and less credible.
It is the job of the public relations firms to not only diffuse the negative image the public has of a company but also to build a new image and a more positive relationship between the company, the media, and the public. Many times this is done through press releases. The public relations firm is responsible for sending a press release regarding a new product, or company break through to different media outlets (whether local or national). The public relations firm goal in doing this is to get a totally unrelated source to review the company's product and write about that product. By getting this source to review and testify of the product public relations firms, and the companies they represent, are finding much more success than they were finding in advertising alone.
Although public relations firms do a lot of good for the marketing campaigns of different companies and businesses, it is not only these businesses that hire public relations firms. As mentioned above there a not for profit organizations that use public relations firms to promote their ideas and campaigns. Some of these campaigns have to do with health, some with education, and some with family. These campaigns and the firms that run them have been very successful. Unfortunately many public relations firms are looking to find the company who will pay them the most for their services, and generally that is not going to be a not for profit organization, and so we will continue to see public relations firms on the rise for the corporate world.
A public relations firm main responsibility is to promote a good relationship with the companies they work for, and the organizations, and the media, and the public. A good public relations firm will strive to make those relationships the most important and valued for their customers, and will make sure the corporations and organizations remain in a good light.
