Publicity tips for Actors and Actresses

You have finally admitted that you have a dream of wanting to work in TV and film more than any other job. With lots of luck and hard work you can be the next star actor or actress.

How do you go about marketing yourself in the field of entertainment? There are several ways to accomplish this. The main one would be to contact your local newspaper to see if you could speak to the event planner about putting a news release into the entertainment section..

How about giving a free performances at local hospitals and also for non-profits organizations? Sometimes you can perform at parties. Ask your host for permission to send a news release about the party to your local media.

Give free classes to children who would like to learn to act. Be sure to make your local TV station know about this. Ask if they would like to highlight this on their morning news.

Have a community group that has an upcoming event and plan a publicity stunt. Be sure to announce this in your news release.

Start your own TV show, or an entire series of shows, on your local cable TV company's public access channel. Did you know that air time is free? You will have to pay a small fee to rent the camera equipment but this is minimal. Again, announce the shows in a news release.

Sometimes donating your services to your local public television on-air auctions is productive. You will find yourself in front of people who might be looking for your service at a later time.

When writing a news release, don't put your entire story into the release. Include the facts, such as the time, date and place. Include an exciting piece that will make a reporter want to call you for the rest of the story. Including your telephone number and email address is very important. Be sure and post all of your news releases on your website. The more news releases you write, the better you will become. Don't delay, write your news release today.

Be sure to have a resume. List first where you most want to further your career. Make it known your past performances including the Production title, your role and the production company.

Find ways to meet and be seen by people who hire actors or actresses. Find local casting and audition for those parts. Also find casting around the country and contact them. Try to meet people who hire actors. Mail your headshot to various agencies. Try to be in the right place at the right time.

Remember, you want to be noticed, for something you have that no one else can recreate-whether that's your wild hair, or your funny personality, you must play up your strengths. You want to be known for the right reasons and you want to leave a good impression that will be remembered.

Having the proper perspective, your career can last as long as your interest and energy levels hold out. Decide whether you want to be a professional actor or an amateur. If you want to become an actor or actress, you might have to move to a major city such as New York or Los Angeles. Consider enrolling in acting classes to make yourself known. Always accept invitations to events and parties and meet the professionals if possible. Remember, sometimes it's who you know. Show off your outgoing personality. Find an agent. Write a letter stating your credits and make your contact information easy to locate. Contact many agencies. They may not all return your call but with patience the calls will come in. Be outgoing! This is very important when you go to auditions.
