Publicity Tips for Company Charitable Giving
If your company is doing a charitable giving project and you need money donations, clothes donations, hygiene items, etc., there are certain things to do so that the public knows what you are doing.
1. Advertise: You should advertise in the local newspaper, or on the news or radio...you need to get it out so that people are aware of your goals. If you first get it in their heads, so they are used to hearing your name and what you are doing, they are more likely to respond.
If you knocked on someone's door and asked them for money, they would probably tell you something like, "I don't have the money right now." "I need to talk to my husband about the budget before I do anything." "I do other charity work."
But if they know who you are and are well aware of what you are trying to accomplish, chances are that they will be a lot more willing to donate to your cause.
2. Get the Community Involved: The next thing to do would be to get people involved. If you had a number they could call to donate, they would probably do it because it is such an easy thing to do.
You could pass out flyers with a list of the things you need written on it and then put out boxes to collect the items in at all the nearby stores where people are usually shopping. Then they would know the next time they were going to the store to bring a few items to donate.
3. Have a Place where People can Access more Information: Some people will not just give in right off the bat. They need to know if it is a real thing and if their money is truly going to a real cause.
One idea would be to have a company website that they could go to and find more information that tells exactly what your company is doing. If there was a detailed description of the project, how much is needed to meet goals, who exactly the project is for...etc. then people would have more trust in the project.
Then after they have researched it, you could have a place where they can go and make donations right on the website.
4. Show the Importance of your Cause: A very important step would be to show people how important your cause is. If you have a goal to raise a million dollars to donate to children in Africa, that's great. And some people may respond to that.
But even more people would respond if they knew why it was so important to give the money to the children in Africa. If you gave out videos or flyers that showed them the statistics of how many children born in Africa die before age ten, what percentage of the children have aids, how many children have clothes to wear and toys to play with etc. people would be eager to join your cause. If they could see how important what you are doing is, then they would be more ready to give what they have.
5. Be Excited about your Work: Last but not least, you have to be excited about it. If you yourself don't care, no one else will. But if you are enthusiastic, your enthusiasm will spread to everyone else and everyone will become excited to get involved.
If someone came up to you and said, "Come be part of my project. It will be great." And kept a straight face, you probably wouldn't want to join. But if someone came up with a smile and a bounce in their step and said, "Look what I'm doing! All the proceeds from this project will go to help little children whose lives will be changed by this one small act!" And they were truly excited about it, you would want to join.
In the end, it will be a success.
