Publicity Tips for Hotels and Bed and Breakfasts

If you are the owner of a hotel or a bed and breakfast there are ways for you to get free publicity for your business. You may have been spending your hard earned dollars advertising in the newspapers but there is a better way. Using the media outlets for free publicity isn't always easy but it will be worth it if you follow a few tips.

Establishing a working relationship with a reporter is a great first step to getting free publicity for your hotel or bed and breakfast. Call a reporter and let them know of what community events that you are sponsoring at your hotel. You are not sponsoring any events in the community? Well there is another great step to free publicity. Start off small, lend a portion of your property for a community or charitable event. Make sure to call the reporter to let them know that there is a community event being held at your hotel, your business will be mentioned in the article. You may even get some airtime on television, if you let a reporter know what is going on at your hotel, who works with the TV news media.

Talk radio shows have hours of airtime to fill and they do it by booking interviews. That charitable event that you sponsored is a great interview spot! Talk radio hosts are always looking for people who have an impact in their community. Offer yourself for an interview to discuss the event that you are sponsoring. During the interview you will have the opportunity to plug your business along with your website.

Having an effective website is another way to get publicity. This isn't free to you but it is free to those who view it. Make sure you have an eye catching site with lots of information about your bed and breakfast. The only way to make sure that the viewer will stay at your website for more than a few seconds is if you offer something that is interesting to them. Mention the events that go on in and around your area and make sure that you include dates to those events. Booking a room might need to be done far in advance of a popular event in your community.

Another good idea to get free publicity for your hotel or bed and breakfast is to take a good look at what is going on around you. If your community has a tourist attraction, then go to magazines that publish about the attraction. Write a story for that magazine that tells about the history of the attraction, the history of your bed and breakfast, a unique story about the town the attraction is in or even just a feel good story about the citizens of the community. People who are interested in the tourist attraction will also be interested in the stories about the community. Remember to plug your hotel or bed and breakfast in the article and once again don't forget to give the address to your website.

Simply by following these few suggestions and being creative with them you will see an increase to your business and a decrease to your advertising dollars that are being spent. You will also feel an increased sense of community and a satisfaction knowing that you are benefiting your community, while at the same time increasing the sales of your hotel or bed and breakfast. You can become an example to others in how to maintain a successful business, and others will want to emulate what you have done.
