Spokesperson

If the head of every business, if every actor, actress, professional athlete, singer, or anyone who is famous, even those who are not famous, if they all spoke for themselves this world would be all talk and nothing else.

It is important for any business to have a great spokesperson. The spokesperson will contribute a lot towards creating a market. This person will handle media inquires and develop relationships with reporters so that the head of the business can keep running his/her business.

The spokesperson handles things with the press. People want to know about your business. They want to know who you are, what you stand for, they want to know your views, they want to know about your products, they want to know if you stand in the same place that they stand in.

Most people do not like to do all this talking themselves, maybe they do not feel qualified to speak about so many different things or maybe they just feel that they do not have the time to handle the media inquires.

If they can hire a good spokesperson it is very helpful to them. Especially if they hire someone who not only knows his stuff, but can develop relationships with reporters. He has to be able to give the reporter the kind of information that the reporter is looking for and he has to be able to give quick, intelligible answers that the public will understand.

Some people think that their spokesperson needs to be great at impressing people. Who cares what he knows, if he can talk pretty and look good on camera that is all that matters. This is not the case however.

The public will like your business more if you have a spokesperson they can trust, not a who's picture they can hang on their wall. You are not shooting for this spokesperson to be a celebrity who people like because of his looks but someone who people will like based off his creditability.

Your spokesperson should also be someone who can keep his cool under pressure. He cannot be someone who gets carried away by his emotions. If he is on camera and he is angry, frustrated, and nervous or any other emotion, the public will be able to see it and it will affect their view of him, and your company.

You have to keep in mind that your spokesperson will be the public face of your company. When people think of your business, a lot of them will have this person in mind and the things this person has said or done.

He has to be knowledgeable about your business and know where your business stands in all things. You do not want someone to be your spokesperson who will talk and talk nice, but talk opposite of where your business really stands.

He has to be educated in how to work with the media so that the media will want to work with you. They will trust him to give good answers no matter what the question or circumstance and so they will come to him on a moments notice because they know that he is prepared to answer.

If he is not like this then reporters will not want to come to him and you will not get as much publicity, therefore hurting your aims at creating a market. The spokesperson is very important and it is important that you get one for your business if you feel that you are not qualified to handle the media.

He is also important if you do not feel that you have the time to handle the media because if the media feels that you are too busy to talk to them, they will not come to you. So be wise when you select your spokesperson, he is either going to be an important asset to your company or a great liability.
